End of Year Update: Stories From Our Streets

The SFOS team have been busy building community connections across BCP over the last couple of months. We’re looking forward to sharing more about who we are working with and how in the coming months. For now, we’ll share just a few of some of the exciting and varied connections that are evolving.

SFOS at Bournemouth Writing Festival

We are delighted to announce SFOS will be part of the inaugural Bournemouth Writing Festival [https://www.bournemouthwritingfestival.co.uk]. The festival runs from April 21st-23rd, 2023 and is dedicated to celebrating and supporting writers at all stages of their journey, including those with no writing experience but who’d like to start exploring. The SFOS team will be hosting two creative writing sessions where you can add your story to the community story map, as well an opportunity to pop by our ‘story stall’ – a fun drop-in space for creativity and a moment to rest amidst all the buzz of the festival!

New Team Member

Bournemouth-based writer Alice Flynn has joined the SFOS team. With a background in embodiment practices (a trained yoga teacher with a background in wellbeing work and physical theatre). Alice and writer Emma Scattergood [https://artfulscribe.co.uk/blogs/685/introducing-the-team] are making good connections with local libraries across BCP and in early 2023 will share a number of sessions on various aspects of story-making for writers of all levels.

SFOS at AUB

In January, we’ll be sharing sessions at Arts University Bournemouth with creative writing students, so that they, too, can gather stories. We’d love for many more people to feel confident in encouraging friends, family and those in their area to share their stories. We’ll announce dates of our writing workshops soon, so if writing a story or gathering stories appeals, watch this space!

Calling All Community Groups – Diverse Voices Wanted!

We’re also in conversation with local community groups. We want the BCP community map to represent the diverse voices that exist across the region. We can offer a series of creative writing sessions for free, so if you know of a group that would like to engage with the project, please be in touch via alice@artfulscribe.co.uk The sessions are uplifting and creative. If your group has access needs, please let us know, too.

Emma and Alice hope you all have a peaceful and restful festive time, that you and those in your communities – be that family, friends, neighbourhood or beyond – create some joyful memories and experience the connection that nurtures wellbeing and a thriving community!
