Preparing for Showcase

SHOWCASW PREPERATIONS!

This week we were preparing for Junior Writers 1st showcase!

But before we could do that, there were GHOSTS TO HUNT!

Entering the cinema (our space for this week) the writers were immediately thrown into a ghost hunt to find lots of paper ghosts floating around the space (spooky).

As this term has been themed around ghost stories the showcase next week will be performed around a (paper) campfire.

After deciding what stories and drawings the writers want to showcase, they were each given a little Ghost Hunters Tent to write a mini story or description from the point of view of a camping ghost hunter. The tents will be placed around the fire next week so the Junior Writers and their Grown Ups have a little campsite to sit behind.

After decorating the tents the Writers were also given a ghost (from the hunt) to describe and decorate. The ghosts will be placed around the campsite next week in Sherling Studio so they can watch the writers perform and show their amazing work.

We are so so proud of the creative ideas everyone has had this term and can't wait to see/hear some of them again next week.

26th November

Today we were in Lighthouse’s sublime cinema. Not just to watch films, but to also to find some ghosts. After all, the cinema is notoriously haunted, and when the team heard about our escapades in Function Room 4 they insisted that we explore the cinema as well.

The Young Writers had to find twelve ghosts around the room – some in plain sight, some hidden amongst the seats and speakers. For our warm-up, we played another game of Categories, getting some brilliant answers: Catsick would be a horrible sandwich filling; a Guinea Pig would be a boring animal in a bad zoom; Goosebumps 2 is indeed a movie.

Onto the main challenge of today. Ahead of our showcase next week, it was important to ensure everyone knew what they want to read and perform. While we started organising the running order, we also watched an episode of ‘Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids’ – a series of cautionary animated tales that highlights another way we can tell scary stories. Today’s episode was about a boy called Jamie who doesn’t care what he eats and ends up in trouble with a witch. Afterwards, we talked about the episode and the Young Writers separated into groups to come up with their own grizzly tales. We had some very gruesome stories at the end – a Jojo Siwa fan who explodes in a firework – a boy eaten by his own cat – a bullying child – someone who talks to their rabbit – they were as surreal and wicked as we wanted and we might even share a story or two next week…
