Castlepoint Library

Today we shared our first session at Castlepoint library.

Surrounded by books of all kinds, standing with all creatives in solidarity, stacked tall on shelves, we created in the hush of the library. The quiet itself has as a sort of reverence to it, that says ‘something really special happens here’. And it does. A warm space where anyone can come, feel welcomed and enjoy the worlds and words that books offer.

Today, we created simple and engaging sketches of our favourite places in BCP with well-chosen words. Rather than using lots of adverbs to describe our verbs, we picked a few dynamic verbs instead - an example would be instead of ‘walking quickly’ we might use ‘marching’ or ‘striding’. Can you see the difference? Which engages you more as a reader?

We used the senses, too, to recreate the atmosphere of our favourite places and share a sense of the feelings these spaces evoke from us. We’re looking forward to being able to share these stories with you, one our digital map is created, in the next phase of the project.

If you’d like to join in at a free session close to you, they are happening across BCP.

Email us at stories@artfulscribe.co.uk to find out when there’s a session near you!
